Writing the World from a River

Priyanka Jayakodi is a cultural anthropology Ph.D. Student in the Department of Anthropology at Michigan State University who specializes in medical and environmental anthropology. She is pursuing a graduate certification in community engagement and a graduate specialization in gender justice and environmental change. Her research interests are located within the entanglements of ecological-bodily health and household water insecurity in communities where Chronic Kidney Disease of uncertain etiology (CKDu) is prevalent in Sri Lanka. She holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Peradeniya. Before enrolling in the Anthropology Ph.D. program at MSU, she worked as an adjunct instructor at the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at Montclair State University (New Jersey) and the Open University of Sri Lanka (Kandy Regional Center). During her time at MSU, Priyanka’s ethnographic and archival research in Sri Lanka has been supported by the Dr. Delia Koo Fellowship from the Asian Studies Center (MSU), the Rose Graduate Fellowship in Water Research (MSU), and the Dissertation Planning Grant from the American Institute for Sri Lankan Studies.
